Foreword by the

Secretary General

INTERCARGO’s membership remained at historic high levels
through to year 2024 (the publication’s reporting period: Sep-
tember 2023 – November 2024), with close to 160 companies
as Full Members, and over 100 Associate Members, i.e. a to-
tal of 260 companies from 30 different countries. With a reg-
istered fleet near the 3,300 ships mark and representing over
one-third of the global dry bulk fleet by deadweight, our As-
sociation reaffirmed its position as the representative body of
the dry bulk shipping sector.

INTECARGO’s activities for the benefit of dry bulk shipping
have spanned a wide agenda addressing key technical issues
and the overarching challenges of sustainably serving socie-
ties’ essential needs. In 2024, our Association was proud to
be a leader in publishing a report dedicated to communicat-
ing our work and messaging through the lens of Environmen-

tal, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles .

Secretary General With people and our seafarers’ safety and well-being retaining
primacy over all other considerations, INTERCARGO remains
committed to promoting best practices and driving excellence
in bulk shipping operations. This commitment was exempli-
fied in 2024 by the launch of the Dry Bulk Centre of Excel-
lence (DBCE), an independent, non-profit entity overseeing
the voluntary company self-assessment Dry Bulk Manage-
ment Standard (DryBMS), developed collaboratively by ship-

owners, operators, and charterers .

Overall, INTERCARGO has been proud to be leading our sector
in navigating the present and future challenges and charting a
course toward sustainable prosperity for societies worldwide.
