essential needs During the reporting period of the present Annual Review, Sep 2021 – Aug 2022,
and while the shipping industry tries to recover from the pandemic, the dry bulk
shipping sector has faced new challenges. In particular the Ukrainian crisis,
with the resulting humanitarian tragedy and its ongoing global and multifacet-
ed repercussions, has provided the opportunity for dry bulk shipping to demon-
strate once again its resilience and its critical role in serving the world’s essen-

tial needs .
INTERCARGO, with a high sense of responsibility towards the challenges of to-

day and tomorrow, has continued its efforts for the benefit of the sector and in
the service of societies at large, offering a badge of quality widely recognised by
the industry.
The credit must go to the membership of our Association – with its growing size
having reached 240 forward thinking companies from 30 different countries –, its
elected Chairs, and the Secretariat for their tireless efforts in promoting quality
dry bulk shipping.
As we move into the future, the greatest challenges of sustainability arguably lie
ahead…
