In 2016, Pacific Basin won the Safety Award at the Lloyd’s List Global Awards and at the Seatrade Asia Awards. The Handysize and Supramax specialist also won the Dry Bulk Operator of the Year Award (for the third consecutive year) at the Lloyd’s List Asia Awards.
In presenting Pacific Basin the Safety Award, the Lloyd’s List judges singled out the company’s focused drive to eliminate complacency at sea, and its initiatives and investment in safety and training beyond mandatory requirements to instil a genuine safety culture, setting an impressive benchmark for others to follow.
About the company’s Dry Bulk Operator award, the judges remarked that “Pacific Basin has shown continued customer focus, conservative financing, attention to safety and also to seafarer and shore staff training”, noting also the company’s financial prudence to remain sustainable.
Notable other accolades in recent weeks include the People Development Award at the IBJ (International Bulk Journal) Awards. Pacific Basin always seeks to make the right investments in its colleagues at all levels of the organisation – both at sea and ashore – which does so much to increase knowledge, productivity, engagement, loyalty and a deeper sense of belonging to the company.
Acknowledging the professionalism with which the company addresses other key aspects of its business, Pacific Basin was the sole recipient of the Gold Award in the Non-Hang Seng Index (Mid-to-Small Market Cap) Category at the Hong Kong Institute of CPAs’ 2016 Best Corporate Governance Awards. HKICPA singled out Pacific Basin as the company other mid-to-small caps should emulate in terms of high-quality corporate governance structures, processes and practices, as well as the clarity and quality of reporting and disclosures both in form and substance.
